I decided I needed a site to blog about my bicycling and my future tours, on my Surly Long Haul Trucker. I built the bike myself. My goal is to ride the Pacific Coast route in the summer of 2011. In the mean time, I will start out doing some short 24 hour camping trips into the back country of San Diego County, where I live.
Here are some pictures of my Surly loaded;
Once I have my gear checked out and am comfortable with the S240s I will venture on to longer trips. My plan is to start and end my rides from my home, for now. In the future I may choose other ways to get to the beginning of my tours, after I gain more experience.
I hope you enjoy the site.
I don’t know why I put two on for that picture. I was trying to figure out what my best choice was. I have changed everything quite a bit since those pictures and have completely different panniers. I’m still trying to select my gear by what works best for me. There are a lot of choices, but not everyone has the same requirements.
What is up with two sleeping pads? Looks a little excessive all in the name of comfort. 🙂
I just ordered a LHT for the same reasons as you. Looking forward to starting to tour for the first time this summer.
Cheers.
That bike looks great, it would be interesting to see feedback on the parts you have used (if it is on you site already, I am sorry) again, great looking gear! Cheers, Joe.
